Hey friends, welcome to my UNEportfolio! My name is Sarah Strait and I am currently a first year at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. I was born and raised in a small town in northern Massachusetts named Pepperell. Throughout my youth, I was an extremely active child who loved to be outdoors. I grew up next to a farm and a forest so most of my time was spent exploring and getting my hands dirty. This developed me into the curious and interactive learner that I am today. I also grew up loving sports. I played everything from soccer to volleyball and I even was a competitive gymnast for several years. Now, I love to participate in as many sports and activities as I can. I just joined both Outing Club and UNEFit and I will be trying out for the Women’s Club Ice Hockey Team. I am currently a dental hygiene major in school and I already know what you are thinking, why would I ever want to put my hands in people mouth’s for a living. To be honest, I don’t have this fascinating story that drew me into the dental field. As a child I simply loved going to the dentist (once I figured out that the polisher wasn’t actually a drill despite the eerily similar sound) and one day someone suggested I go into dentistry and it stuck with me. I eventually did a full-time summer internship at my local dentist office and absolutely loved dental hygiene and it has been my career goal ever since. So now here I am, at my dream school in my dream major, living in Freddy Hall and being called Blonde Sarah (to distinct me from the other four Sarah’s living on my floor), absolutely ecstatic about where I am in my life right now.
